Impressions of a person are the hardest to shake off or replaced. Sometimes people say things that they thought would harm no one because they dont really mean it. But if you touch on the issue over and over again, it kinda loop into their minds.

I have been doing some reflection after seeing the picture of my brother's send off at the airport. Theres almost like 2 classes of students going for a overseas exchange. My family always compare my EQ with my elder brother. Maybe its true that he has higher EQ than me. He became the school prefect i wanted to be and went to that OCS that i never made into. He passed his driving test on his first attempt while im still struggling on my third try.

My family has always blamed me for not having an EQ equal to his but they have never once compared our academic results. No one blames him for using 5 years for secondary school nor watching TV when his homework is undone. But everyone only remembers me as the spoilt younger child. Do people realise they are hurting me with their comments? Do they know that yes, im a sensitive emo potato behind all those laughter and sarcastic jokes? Does anyone ever see my effort trying to be a better person? Do they acknowledge the occasional child in me?

Sometimes i wonder, why must everyone be so hard on me, i'm a perfectionist but i, too am not perfect.

NYC -> BOSTON
Saturday, January 16, 2010

Here's the rest of the adventure in NYC; Museum of Modern Art, Liberty, Chinatown. I actually got to see the original piece of vincent van gogh's starry starry night. SUCH an honour to see the real thing. Its was really an amazing feeling to finally get to see it and im going to get a replica for my house next time. hahahaha.

We all tried jump shots since Liberty is closed on Christmas. I thought it was opened on Christmas, there goes one day of our New York Pass. And if you notice, Gek Teng cannot do jump shots! Guess she just a very rooted person in general, a.k.a. heavy! hahahah

And we went to Chinatown to make fun of our own race, unintentionally cuz this particular Chinatown is just so amusing.

There are still some other places we went but im starting to feel its such a chore to upload so i guess i will give NYC a wrap and move to...... BOSTON! That 5 hour bus ride was quite comfy actually! There's electrical plugs and all just like the airplane. :D

The first meal of Boston. Stephanie's @ Newbury St. Its SUPER delicious! The crabcake benedict, steaks and eggs, deserts. OMG VERY VERY VERY TASTY!!

And for dinner we decided to cook it out man. Cuz Huiyee's sister was sick, and Gek was craving for home cooked food after like what 7 days? How is she ever going to survive the Ang Moh countries such as her Aussie sch? DIE.

Army Diaries

Thursday 150110 Gloomy

There are alot of issues i would like to touch on but cannot. Rest assure i would share my thoughts once i get the chance to. In the army, its true we do alot of undesirable tasks. Many of which we can never justify even after painstakingly completing them. However, we cannot deny the fact that the organisation forces us to reflect about human behavior and society. A society where rotten apples are free to reign, a place where you can make your way to the top without even having genuine capabilities to do so because superiors like having their boots licked so much. I don't like the fact that some people manipulate others to get what they want in life. However, many a time, situation like that just takes away another piece of that ideal world my innocent mind had once pictured; a meritocratic world where all is fair and square.

In this world politics, where others describe as to be "dog eat dog", is it safe to just live your life without knowing the rules to the game? Can we still be a warrior without having to wield the sword?

the tired soldier. }(

and more of NYC
Sunday, January 10, 2010

I think this is the second night after we went to woodbury again. But this time we rushed back and i think we watched avatar that night. LOVE avatar, best movie since forever. Anyway, diners are like their food court, its like billy bombers and its everywhere. The cheesecake is damn shiok. Heard from Gek all their cheesecakes comes from this place call the cheesecake factory. I was comparing, Singapore's strawberry cheesecake is more like strawberry jam cake because theres only jam on them! In U.S., the strawberries machamp free, like a volcanic eruption of strawberries on the cheesecake.

Here a demo of a the difference between an American cheesecake and a Singaporean one.

The next day, we went to APPLE BEES for breakfast. Best breakfast in NYC. I love the spinach omelets, huge serving of apple juice and the steak and eggs. YUMMY. and not expensive too. i think 20 odd a person. I couldn't remember but i think that was the day we went to museum of sex. Then after museum of sex, we walked over to Madison square garden. Starbucks, snow, the city, it was really splendid man. But even with everything on, i was still shivering, i guess i was just not accustomed to the cold yet.

The squirrels had killer cute looks. Im sorry Jermaine, jertaime, jersyn, cayden jair and johan, these squirrels are so much cuter than you guys anytime! hahaha

I forgot the sequence already but during the New York pass validated days, we went to Metropolitan Museum of the Arts. It was great great great! Everything was so inspiring there. No wonder season 4 of Project runway brought their contestants there for the final challenge.

Oh i remembered. Met art is after central park. We walked all the way down central park but before that we took a picture with the fake live statue. LOL.

And this is the snow challenge, Gek Teng proving that snow from the roadside is edible!

Anyway, before i end this post, heres a quote i read from a blog with rather meaningful stuff written in it.

But we must never trap ourselves to a tune we can no longer sing.

when we just arrived

After 16 hours of sitting in china cushion, we finally arrived at where i saw on TV, NEW YORK CITY!! Tim said we were staying in hilton so i intially thought oh, Paris Hilton, hilton hotel @ Times square. ZZZ so actually its hilton garden inn. Not too bad actually. REALLY comfortable and i would recommend any budget traveler to stay there. Its 200 a night for 2 queen bed bedroom, complimentary neutrogena toiletries. And you only have to tip them US$2 a day for housekeeping. Oh, and they have complimentary pantry with a awesome hot chocolate on the go before you head out to the cold. The hotel is also middle town and super near the Macy's store. So when you get lost, just look out for the huge red box. :)

I thought the first meal here would be definitely western but Gek Teng suggested we eat at Korean St. BCD tofu house, Gek claimed that last year when she was here she went back 3 times. Its just so so for me lar. 20 odd US dollar for a decent hot asian cuisine. I think its ZAGAT recommended though.

First day, we went to woodbury premium outlets. www.premiumoutlets.com Anything with ---bury is a bad sign, later you will find out why. Boston has a newbury street; very bad as well. I swear the stores in the something bury places has moving mannequins that wave at you and ask you to buy them. It was pretty bad cuz we spent next day there as well. The bus ticket there is US$42 somemore! But the prada bags there are like up to 40% off retail price.
WARNING: DO NOT VISIT IF ON VERY TIGHT BUDGET

Having done major damage to our wallets, we hop on the New York Pass and citysight bus to be excited tourists. The New York Pass plus 3 days of free bus pass to hop on and off. Sounds very convenient and super worth it. WRONG! The new york pass might be quite worth it if you rush like mad from museums to museums because museums and attractions close at 5-6pm. And we end up cabbing because the bus took damn bloody long to arrive and one actually missed us and just drove pass. BOO. Still, you can purchase the New York Pass if you plan your routes properly but i wouldn't recommend the bus cuz its crap. www.newyorkpass.com

First stop we went to museum of SEX. YES, they have a museum of all things related to sex. Its all damn adult and graphic, complete with artistic porn photos, videos all categorised, toys, history and sexy souvenirs. Well, you look closely top right is a penis vase, top left are vibrators and bottom left is a life size sex doll with a real ahem below. HAHA. To me, its a tastefully done porn shop, nothing too educational about it but definitely eye opener. I bet if Singapore has one, they would only be using bananas and barbie dolls to portray anything sexual.

Anyway, its so late now. I will blog more tml. I will try to be detailed because you seriously dont need a tour guide for new york! read up abit and you are ready to go

Some test i decided to give a try after stumbling upon an interesting blog. :)

You are the sort of person that needs a peaceful environment. You seek release from stress and freedom from conflicts and disagreements, of which you seem to have had more than your fair share. But you are taking pains to control the situation by proceeding cautiously and you are right in doing so as you are a very sensitive person. hmmm. very true indeed

At this time you 'need to be needed' and again you 'need to need'. You have had this feeling for some time now and you are looking for someone who could share a close bond in an atmosphere of shared intimacy. You have the belief that with the right person you could conquer the world. not too sure about that~~

Everything seems to have gone wrong and the situation at this time is such that you are not quite sure which way to turn. So it would appear that you are 'holding back', re-consolidating your position and relinquishing all fun and games for the time being. alittle yeah, for these months

You pretend that you are a carefree individual and that nothing really bothers you - that you are so self-sufficient that whatever problems beset you they simply flow off you as water flows off a ducks back. You are experiencing considerable stress, trying to conceal yourself from the rest of the world. In actual fact - deep down, you are not at all happy. You feel lonely and you need someone with whom you can 'Let your hair down' and share your hopes, dreams and high standards. You are imposing unnecessary self restraint on yourself. You would like to demonstrate the unique quality of your character to all and sundry. dont think i would ever admit to that even if its true. haha.

Since in the recent past all of your hopes and aspirations have been denied you, you are now convinced that the future will hold nothing but anxiety so therefore 'why bother?' You would love to get away from it all, to escape from the trials and tribulations of this mundane existence and fall into a peaceful and harmonious relationship, which will protect you from the lack of appreciation and give you the chance to start afresh. if you are referring to army, HELL YEAH!

arrived

Finally came back to familiarity after weeks, only to unravel a tough mine. When you think the storm had calmed, the second wave hits. I guess life was never meant to be smooth sailing. After all, whats there to savor if no sweat and blood was put into something?

city of blinding lights
Tuesday, January 5, 2010

In about less than 48 hours, i will be leaving this place where i don't see myself returning to in the next 5 years. After traveling to New York, Boston, now Las Vegas, i'm actually starting to miss home as much as i hate to admit it. My family might be thinking that i'm a crazy spendthrift to travel to places like japan and US but i find that every time i travel without them, i feel that i know more about myself and maybe mature a little bit more. Just like out of school classes, traveling is actually a form of education because the experience speaks more than just reading or watching videos; like seeing the Gondola in the Venetian wasn't all as amazing as it was on the travel and living channel.

Where we are staying now is like the heart of the city which is also known as 'THE STRIP". I always thought since Vegas is a desert, it would only have casinos, hotels, shopping centers and brothels or something. It was speaking to some retail staff that it came to me that despite being a place of many "sins", Vegas is still a place someone calls home. That totally redefined my whole definition of home. Home is not a comfortable house overlooking a garden in the suburbs nor a cozy apartment in the city. Home is where your loved ones are and where you live your life story, be it a desert or just a tiny red dot on the map.

Something i pondered about: If light was meant to lead the way, would it still serve its purpose when its offered in a cluster?

moving on
Monday, January 4, 2010

A new year should be about new beginnings, forgive, forget and move on. But if you live life to its fullest everyday, there actually isnt much to regret about. Rather, you will find it hard to surpass yesterday, how to live today with even more zest and optimism.

It getting harder for me to pen down my thoughts recently, like as if blogging is a thing more like an outlet for attention deficit teenagers. Its 2010 which means that im 22 this year as much as i want to stay 21. hahaha, i mean, who wouldn't? The question is, although we are told to stay young in the heart, how do we actually do it? Are we suppose to pair nike shoes with a suit?

In my opinion, you do things with the sensibility of an adult's mind but with a heart like a 5 year old. :)
