Black and white film photography
Friday, February 26, 2010

So its going to be the end of my first term soon and i will start on studio photography. I start to appreciate film photography despite all the hassle of just producing one pathetic print which sometimes look good on contact prints but sucks after you enlarge it to a full print. I took two hours to shoot a roll of black and white film on analog camera. Then, develop the film roll which takes about 1 and 1/2 hour, then i will do a contact print which takes another 1 and 1/2 hour. Then the teacher will select one or two in my case since i'm amateur. Another 1 and 1/2 hour goes to doing test strips and producing the actual print. Maybe 1/2 more to finalise and tweak the prin with dodge and burn technique.

Total: 2+1.5+1.5+1.5+0.5= 7

7 hours to do produce a picture. No photoshop, minimal cropping, no meters to control. Photography is really hardwork in the past man! Still is now but i must say technological advances have allowed novices like me to produce what i thought fantastic pictures but mostly its because the digitalised camera is smarter than i am. LOL.

First one is form, and the second is patterns. Honestly speaking, i dont really dig these photos but its picked by my teacher in NAFA. Different perspective? afterall, beauty is in the eye of its beholder.

What do you think?

do we have to?

I read a psychological test done for fellow commanders in camp. It says that a person that is more agreeable with issues in general are more well liked by others. That people who agree more than they argue are socially more popular.

Does that mean that if we don't go with the flow, or sway as where the wind blow like a blade of grass, we would be more unlikeable?

The society sets a certain golden standard for a lot of areas that make up you who you are. The way you should dress, the way you should talk, the friends you hang out with, your looks, etc. The list seems never ending. Sometimes i think we all find it hard to balance; to follow the crowd in hoping to be one of the socially acclaimed "elites" or to express individualism and really live a unique life of your own. You might be wanting or doing the same things. But i believe a genuine individual will feel the satisfaction after a day's work. That is truly a life you call your own.
