do we have to?

I read a psychological test done for fellow commanders in camp. It says that a person that is more agreeable with issues in general are more well liked by others. That people who agree more than they argue are socially more popular.
Does that mean that if we don't go with the flow, or sway as where the wind blow like a blade of grass, we would be more unlikeable?
The society sets a certain golden standard for a lot of areas that make up you who you are. The way you should dress, the way you should talk, the friends you hang out with, your looks, etc. The list seems never ending. Sometimes i think we all find it hard to balance; to follow the crowd in hoping to be one of the socially acclaimed "elites" or to express individualism and really live a unique life of your own. You might be wanting or doing the same things. But i believe a genuine individual will feel the satisfaction after a day's work. That is truly a life you call your own.
